Premium Inspection Pass

The history the seller can't tell you.

Four provenance checks against national finance, police and insurance records. Run once, kept in your report for good.

Outstanding finance

Money still owed on the car can mean it is not fully the seller's to sell.

Buy one with a loan still on it and the lender can repossess the car, even after you have paid the seller in full.

Stolen vehicle marker

Confirms the car is not recorded as stolen on the police national database.

A stolen car can be seized by police and returned to its owner, leaving you with no car and no refund.

Insurance write-off

Reveals past write-offs and the damage category, from cosmetic to structural.

A repaired write-off can hide structural or safety damage, is worth far less, and can be harder to insure or sell on.

Mileage anomalies

Flags odometer readings that go backwards across its recorded history.

A clocked car hides its real wear, so you overpay and meet expensive repairs far sooner than the miles suggest.

Provenance data from licensed commercial providers, alongside DVLA and DVSA records. Checks run at the moment you unlock Premium and stay in your report.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Why use AutoSpect instead of a garage inspection?
Because AutoSpect gives you more, for far less. A garage check costs around £150 and only tells you the car's condition on the day. AutoSpect guides you through the same professional-grade walkaround and adds what a forecourt glance can't: model-specific fault patterns, full MOT and ownership history, finance, write-off and stolen provenance, and a clear purchase score with negotiation points. It's the smart first line of defence for any used-car buyer, fast and thorough, right in your pocket. Its insights are there to inform your decision rather than certify the vehicle.
What's the difference between the Free check, Inspection Pass and Premium Inspection Pass?
The free check gives you DVLA and MOT data, model-specific watch points, Euro NCAP safety ratings, and this vehicle's strengths and red flags, so you can rule out problem cars before you travel. The Inspection Pass unlocks the guided on-site walkaround, Purchase Score, Purchase Summary, Purchase Advisor and negotiation points. The Premium Inspection Pass adds full provenance: outstanding finance, write-off, stolen and mileage-anomaly checks. See the full comparison above.
Where does your data come from?
Vehicle and MOT data comes from the DVLA and DVSA, with additional details and provenance from licensed commercial data providers. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Which vehicles can I check?
Any UK-registered vehicle. That covers more than 40 million cars, vans and motorcycles held in DVLA and MOT records. Just enter the number plate.
What do the finance, write-off and stolen checks tell me?
The outstanding finance check shows whether money is still owed on the car, which can mean it is not fully the seller's to sell. The write-off check reveals whether an insurer has written it off and the damage category. The stolen check confirms it is not recorded as stolen. These provenance checks are part of the Premium Inspection Pass.
When does AutoSpect launch and how much will it cost?
AutoSpect is available now on the App Store for UK buyers. The basic check is always free; the full Inspection Pass is a one-time purchase per vehicle, with no subscription.
Is my data private?
Yes. We only use the registration you enter to look up vehicle data, and we do not sell your personal information. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
