Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 May 2026

Overview

AutoSpect is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect or transmit personally identifiable information to our servers. Where data does reach our infrastructure — specifically purchase reports stored for recovery purposes — it is linked only to an anonymous device identifier, not to you as an individual. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the data controller is the AutoSpect development team.

Data We Do Not Collect

AutoSpect does not collect or store:

  • Your name, email address, or any account credentials
  • Device identifiers linked to your personal identity
  • Location data
  • Photos or camera images beyond the immediate processing session
  • Browsing history or cross-app tracking data

Vehicle Lookup Processing

When you enter a UK vehicle registration mark (VRM), the app sends that registration to third-party UK vehicle data APIs (DVLA-connected services) solely to retrieve publicly available vehicle records such as MOT history, tax status, and vehicle specification. We do not intentionally log or persistently store queried registrations on our infrastructure. Standard AWS infrastructure logs may be retained for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) for security and operational purposes only, after which they are automatically deleted.

AI Processing

AutoSpect uses large language model APIs to generate vehicle-specific insights. Prompts sent to these services contain only vehicle make, model, year, and MOT history — no personal data. Our AI proxy does not persistently log prompt content. Responses are cached locally on your device for performance. We do not use your queries to train AI models.

In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed entirely through Apple's App Store infrastructure using StoreKit. AutoSpect never receives, processes, or stores your payment card details or Apple ID. Purchase transactions are securely validated directly on your device using Apple's signed cryptographic frameworks — no payment or financial data ever leaves your device or reaches our servers.

Local Storage & Report Recovery

Inspection records and lookup history are stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and iCloud (if you have iCloud enabled). iCloud sync is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

Purchase reports you generate are also stored on AutoSpect's servers (AWS DynamoDB), linked to an anonymous device identifier. This is done solely to allow you to recover your reports after reinstalling the app, and for debugging and support purposes. No personally identifiable information accompanies this data. Reports are retained for 24 months after your last app activity, then automatically deleted.

You may delete all local data at any time from the app's Settings screen.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

AutoSpect uses Apple's built-in analytics (subject to your consent via iOS privacy settings) to receive anonymised, aggregated usage information such as feature interaction counts and crash reports. This data is provided by Apple and contains no personally identifiable information. You can withdraw this consent at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Your Rights & Data Erasure (UK GDPR)

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Erasure (Right to be Forgotten) — request deletion of your data from our servers
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Object — object to processing in certain circumstances

To delete all local inspection data, use the Delete All Data option in the app's Settings screen.

To request erasure of any report data associated with your anonymous device identifier stored on our servers, contact us at support@autospect.co.uk. We will process validated deletion requests within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children's Privacy

AutoSpect is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the app or applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Where changes materially affect how data is processed, we will notify you within the app before those changes take effect.
